Prahran House
The philosophy behind the project was to highlight the original period details and to differentiate the space with colour, contemporary art, furniture and period pieces.
The deliberate contrast between the original period house, the 1970's extension to the rear and the new colour scheme creates an eclectic mix for this artistic home.
The house uses a base of limed white timber floorboards with maritime grey paint finish, midnight blue carpets, mauve walls and ivory accents. The 1970's extension is exaggerated with the use of vivid green studded vinyl flooring which offsets the stark white timber ceilings, black and stainless steel joinery and custom painted industrial light fixtures.
The expressed colouring of the walls reinforces the original Victorian architectural details with combinations of antique and modern art. The mixture of contemporary and industrial light fixtures adds extra drama to the spaces throughout the home.
Prahran House was awarded the best Residential Interior Award at the Dulux Colour Awards 2010.
