O'Dea AvenueWaterloo NSW Australia
Located at the intersection of O’Dea and Joynton Avenues and the future Rope Walk, this former industrial area is undergoing significant change. SJB was awarded the project as part of the City of Sydney Design Excellence process with a proposal that sought to address site specific planning controls regarding urban grain, texture, built form and public realm.
The scale of the communal open space will allow for the insertion of a significant landscape area, able to support large mature trees over time. In addition to this, public art is seen to be an important component of creating memorable and remarkable places and we have begun collaboration with the artist Mika Popov-Utzon.
Deep cuts into the floor plans ensure that a large number of dwellings will enjoy naturally lit and ventilated bathrooms, kitchens and studies, in addition to all corridor and lobby spaces. Proposed materials will be robust, ensuring longevity and sustainably.
