Public Bar and DiningCanberra ACT Australia
A 1920s retail store, which was transformed into a hospitality venue in the 1980s, occupies a key corner site in Manuka.
Our brief for the space was to extend the existing hospitality venue into an adjacent property and create a public bar, lounge, bistro, toilets and commercial kitchen facilities.
The concept was to create a New York style public bar and bistro. We achieved this by stripping back the building to its original 1920s structure, exposing timber trusses and raw painted brickwork. To these existing features we added contemporary fit-outs and used colour, tiling, pattern, furniture and lighting to evoke the notion of a past era.
