Andrew Parr - Gold Medal winner at 2019 IDEANovember 2019
For a life dedicated to design, Andrew Parr was last week awarded the Gold Medal at the 2019 IDEA party, held at Port Melbourne The Timber Yard, hosted by Inside magazine.
This year SJB Interiors celebrates its 25th anniversary and founding director, Andrew Parr, said that collaboration and relationships have been the cornerstones of his career. He echoed those sentiments in a heart-felt acceptance speech to a 500-strong crowd attending the night.
The Gold Medal recognises significant contributions to the practice and culture of Australian interior design. The jury said: “Andrew’s vigour and expertise have helped shape the Australian design landscape beyond measure.”
Inside co-Editor, Jan Henderson added nuance to that accolade, saying “Andrew’s body of work is vast - over 1,000 projects and a lot more to come, but his influence goes much further. Not only to significant client relationships, but to the mentorship of other great design talents who’ve started at SJB Interiors, then launched successful practices. People like Greg Natale, David Hicks, and more recently Kylie Dorotic and Alicia McKimm (Studio Golden). So he’s not just prolific, but incredibly generous and supportive of others.”
“What I’ve found deeply rewarding over the years, is that so many good friendships have translated into great client relationships. I’ve also been lucky to have had the support from talented people in the industry, so it’s really a pleasure to give back. And it’s wonderful that what we co-create together is recognised.” Andrew Parr, director, SJB Interiors.
