Architects without Frontiers Involvement

April 2017

SJB is enormously proud to support Architects Without Frontiers in their global mission to aid vulnerable communities to design and build health and education projects in the Asia Pacific region.

SJB Director, Amanda Roberts embarked on a four-week trip to Vietnam which included a visit to the Kianh Foundation education centre in Hoi An. There she had the opportunity to meet with Jackie Wrafter, Co-Founder and Director of the Foundation and tour the AWF sponsored building.

The Centre provides, physiotherapy, speech therapy, education in various forms and a happy place to be a child for approximately 60-80 disabled and disadvantaged children. Without this centre these children and their families have no, or extremely limited access to support services which has a major impact on quality of life.

“Seeing this centre was a sharp reminder of the positive impact health and education have on the wellbeing of children and their families, especially when provided in a safe, comfortable and happy environment. The staff and kids have made the building their own and are now growing veggies, setting up ‘shop’ and learning essential life skills to help them live fulfilled lives in their own communities.”
