Houses AwardsApril 2018
Presented by Houses magazine, the Houses Awards is an annual program celebrating Australia’s best residential projects. Excellence is rewarded in nine categories, with the best house receiving the premier award of Australian House of the Year.
A Houses Award is one of Australia’s most sought-after accolades for residential work and we are honoured to be a finalist in three categories; ‘Sustainability’ and ‘Apartment or Unit’ for Cleveland Rooftop and ‘House Alteration Under 200 m2’ for Darlinghurst Residence.
Cleveland Rooftop is boutique rooftop addition to the original Demco Machinery building. The approach architecturally was to realise a garden that you happened to live in, rather than an apartment surrounded by greenery. In addition, the client's life is complemented by rooftop energy production meaning 95% of their life, inclusive of their electric car power, is produced by the home.
Darlinghurst Residence contains generations of changes to an already unusual typology – a triangular site, no room is square, no window the same. The design adapts the building for a new user but deliberately keeps a little unclear what is new and what is old and what, if anything, was original.
We look forward to the gala event at the Ivy in Sydney on Friday 27 July 2018.
