Hurstville City Centre Urban Design StrategyHurstville NSW Australia
Following the recent amalgamation of the Hurstville and Kogarah Councils, SJB were engaged by Georges River Council to review the existing development standards within the centre and prepare a framework of new urban design controls which will form a revised Urban Design Strategy.
The key objective for the strategy is to strengthen the role of Hurstville as a key regional centre and gateway to Southern Sydney. Extensive analysis, as well as a review of previous studies produced for the Hurstville City informed a series of design principles and structure plans that address connectivity, activity, the public domain and built form.
The Strategy identifies opportunities for improved public and active transport connections, revitalising and expanding the public domain and strengthening the distinct identity of the Hurstville Centre. The report includes a detailed review of the built form condition to inform a set of block by block planning controls for the centre.
