With a growing population in Newcastle, Honeysuckle foreshore is undergoing a huge transformation from a former industrial hub to a vibrant liveable foreshore precinct. Stretched along the foreshore with views to the north across the Hunter river, and the urban fabric of Newcastle to the south the site boasts a unique urban condition where the city meets the water. In response to this the building form takes reference from the sweeping curves of the coastline to create a sculptural object that orientates views and references its context. Clad with bagged brick the building texture gives it a domestic feel while the podium is defined with a turquoise glazed brick to respond to the urban realm. Key to its urban design, the site is dissected by two visual breaks that allow pedestrians to freely connect through the site whilst breaking down the mass into three smaller buildings. The ground plane houses retail and commercial tenancies with six levels of residential above. Along the foreshore townhouses create a stepped boundary which provide a human scale to the foreshore parkland.
