North Sydney CBD Land Use and Built Form Capacity StudyNorth Sydney NSW Australia
SJB was appointed by North Sydney Council (NSC) to undertake a future capacity study for the North Sydney Centre. This work is intended to inform a broader study by Council aimed at identifying and implementing policies and strategies that ensure the North Sydney Centre:
- Retains and strengthens its role as a key component of Global Sydney,
- Remains the principal economic engine of Sydney’s North Shore, and
- Becomes a more attractive, sustainable and vibrant place for residents, workers and businesses.
The key objective of this study is to assess a number of hypothetical planning scenarios, combined with predetermined filters, to identify the appropriateness for additional floorspace capacity within the North Sydney Centre. The study will then enable council to assess the viability of hypothetical planning interventions to inform an approach for the delivery on the Centre’s wider objective.
The key findings from this study reveal that the various controls that apply to the North Sydney Centre impact future development, with potential additional capacity ranging from 450,000m2 to 2,000,000m2 commercial floor space.
