Shall we Dense?

In-house research and development project
U

SJB directors Simon McPherson and Adam Haddow lead an independent research and development project, ‘Shall We Dense?’. This work interrogates relationships among development patterns, urban densities, housing type mixes, walkability/accessibility and the economic viability of local provision of employment, services and facilities. The project develops a mathematical model for identifying required densities to achieve an economically sustainable, walkable urban structure, and it disproves various standard policy directions for Australian cities.

The research project has been presented at several industry forums and in mainstream media publications.
It is receiving strong interest and support.

We are developing an online application to enable the public to use the data to help them choose an appropriate housing type and location. Download more information.
