Smeg Tour CompetitionRecognising Outstanding Kitchen Design
41 Birmingham has been awarded in the Smeg Tour Competition ‘Recognising Outstanding Kitchen Design’.
As one of the four winners, architects Jacqueline Connor and Alicia Boh of SJB will receive a prize package including a return trip to Venice for the opening of the Venice Architecture Biennale and a unique tour to the Smeg Headquarters and surrounding region.
The winning projects stood out against the criteria of innovative design, creative use of materials and appliances as well as spatial planning and use of natural light and ventilation.
On selecting 41 Birmingham, the jury commented, “Taking cues from its inner-city Sydney neighbourhood, this apartment project has a decidedly industrial flavour, far removed from most generic multi-unit residential projects. A distinctive ribbed concrete ceiling effectively connects the combined open plan kitchen, living and dining area.”
Kirsten Stanisich, Director and interior designer of the project shared “it’s an excellent opportunity to be recognised by Smeg, a company that is known for their collaborations with some of the world’s best architects and designers. “
