Waterfront Way

The proposal at Waterfront Way is a significant Docklands mixed-used development comprising a 17-level building with approximately106 apartments and 190 Marriott hotel rooms.

Working closely with State and local government officers the project team developed a design response which successfully addressed the numerous contextual challenges facing the site while delivering a built form outcome in line with the future urban character envisaged for Docklands.

The design responded carefully and considerately to its strategic location, delivering pedestrian focussed scale at the street edge, car parking sleeved by hotel rooms within the podium and the utilisation of built form opportunities presented by the acquisition of air rights over adjacent buildings to deliver an iconic building to the area. Both apartments and hotel rooms are provided with high levels of internal amenity, and generous areas of communal open space are shared between the hotel and residential land uses on site.

After much hard work and a collaborative design process, the City of Melbourne planning officers recommended the development be approved, which was subsequently supported by Councillors at Melbourne City Council. DELWP agreed with Council’s position and issued a planning permit for the development shortly after.
